I think its a local thing, atleast in my part of PA. Everyone else I know calls the whoopie pies. I will have to look up how they got that name but it does have to do with coal miners and stuff. but I found my aunts' recipe to make them. I am so excited. I think I will be making them today for tomorrow. Now I am not sure about the jello cake but woot woot for gobs. I will have to take a picture of them once they are made! My aunt would also make gob cakes which were so yummy!

are they like 2 chocolate cake type cookies with a cram filling? I was just asking my mom today for the whoopie pie recipe. Is this the same?

yep! I am addicted to them. There is a brand that I have had since I was about 1 yrs old. Even in Germany my mom and my aunt would send them to us every so often. I have always called them gobs so that is what they will always be to me.

Just like pigs in the blanket to me is stuffed cabbage not hot dog in a crescent roll.

Here's a picture of some of the gobs. I made some with the icing recipe that my Aunt Reta gave me which I think is from her MIL. And then I did some with a marshmellow fluff and crunchy peanut butter icing too. Mark wanted some peanut butter ones but all we had was crunchy peanut butter in the cabinet
