IMO it is a powerful thing we as a society let magazines and popular media dictate how we should feel about ourselves.
That doesn't mean you can't enjoy things, or like things it just means that societal 'standards' of beauty need to stop and people need to learn to love themselves instead of almost killing themselves to be perfect when it doesn't exist.

But we've always had societal standards of beauty. It's an in-born thing as well as a side-effect (or consequence) of us being social creatures. When I say always, I mean always throughout history.
